Lots of things about the 2020 holiday season have to be different this year to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and safeguard local residents. But we can still look forward to getting outside - even if it's a little cold - and checking out some amazing holiday light displays that will be sparkling and shining as bright as ever!
Gift of Lights
Gift of Lights is a long running family-friendly KW holiday lighting experience hosted by Bingemans featuring two tunnels and more than 300 displays of animated and static light! From the comfort of your own vehicle, enjoy this holiday show and tune into Gift of Lights Radio (103.3 FM) for holiday tunes to set the mood!
Or be part of 3 exclusive nights of "Walk Only" and stroll on foot around the displays. Bear in mind that for both drive thru and walking nights, timed tickets must be bought in advance. You can, however, do that here.
The Cambridge Old Post Office Holiday Transformation
Each Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening, lots of lights and special visual effects will be transforming the Old Post Office in Cambridge into a very magical and festive spot! You can watch the 20-minute display from your car, or from just outside, as long as you are masked up and staying socially distant.
The special shows run from November 15 to December 27, 2020, and you can find out more about them here.
Victoria Park Kitchener Christmas Fantasy
To see the dazzling annual display of festive lights that adorn houses, trees and bridges during Christmas Fantasy, take the whole family out to Victoria Park in Kitchener.
Beginning on December 5th, the lights turn on and stay on until the New Year. This year look for even more displays and light installations in the park and around the boat house: it's the ideal way to spend a winter evening, just make sure to wrap up warm.
St Jacobs Sparkles
Take in the thousands of twinkling holiday lights that will make you smile as you shop in the village during St. Jacobs Sparkles from now until December 24th.
On special days, there's also Santa's Workshop, where children can drop their wishlist letters off and watch Santa and his helpers get ready for his big day! Find out more here.
Cambridge Winter Illuminations
From Nov 23 to Jan 2 Cambridge will be illuminated with up to 20 holiday light installations positioned around the area.
This latest addition to the annual Cambridge Christmas festival incorporates, but without the crowds, some of the best-loved elements of Phil Kline's Unsilent Night, Candyland and Music and Lights in the Village. For this self-guided experience, an interactive map will be provided and you can drive around at marvel at the lights on your own schedule and at your own pace.
Uptown Waterloo Menorah
The giant Menorah in Waterloo Public Square will still be lit, although the annual public celebration to mark the beginning of Chanukkah has been cancelled for 2020.
Officials are asking people not to assemble in the square when, on December 10 the menorah is lit; but then you can, and should stop by with your family to see the lights afterwards. Just remember social distance and wear a mask.
