Beechwood is a fully developed Waterloo neighborhood bordered by Fischer Hallman, Erb, and Columbia to the west of the University of Waterloo. There is good public transportation, including two LRT stops within walking distance. The best ways to get to the expressway are via King or University.
Beechwood housing stock comes in a variety of ages. Although there are homes from the postwar era, development did not start in earnest in the area until the 1960s. The older east-end quarter across from UW, which dates from the later period, has some beautiful homes on large lots. Homes in the west end and south of Keatsway are more reasonably priced.
Nearer to Erb St., the neighborhood is mostly single detached, with some apartments, townhomes, and condominiums. The neighborhood is diverse in terms of demographics, with a reasonable amount of rental housing geared toward lower-income residents and students, as well as a significant number of mid-priced and high-end homes.
Clair Lake Park adds some gorgeous greenery to the immediate area, and Waterloo Park is just across the street. The uptown area, the Rec Plex, The Boardwak, and the Westmount Golf Club are all nearby attractions Beechwood residents can enjoy.
