Is the Kitchener Christkindl Market Cancelled This Year?

Ask anyone who knows the Kitchener Waterloo area well and they will tell you that the annual Christkindl Market is a must attend every year. But this is 2020 and COVID-19 is impacting almost every aspect of our lives. So, many are asking, Is the Kitchener Christkindl Market cancelled this year?

The answer is no, the Grinch hasn't managed to do that, but the 2020 version of what is North America's original Chriskindl Market will look rather different this year.

Instead of the physical events that usually attract thousands of locals and tourists alike to Downtown Kitchener the vast majority of events are moving online this year.

The Kitchener Christkindl Market Virtual Advent Calendar

Beginning December 1, 2020 if you head to the official Kitchener Christkindl Market website you'll find a virtual advent calendar. Every day a new virtual treat, activity or puzzle will be revealed along with memories from the past 23 stagings of the event.

Shopping Kitchener Christkindl Market Vendors

One of the biggest reasons people head to market is to shop the wide range of Christmas wares offered by local vendors. These folks are also moving operations online, and you can shop their 'storefronts' here.

If you have never experienced the event we can tell you that these merchants offer a wonderful selection of holiday foods - such wonderful stuff, you have to try one - holiday decorations, gifts and more.

Again, the online marketplace is located here and by shopping there for your Christmas goodies instead of Amazon you'll be supporting the community, something that is much needed in this pandemic year.

Kitchener Christkindl Market Christmas Trees

The best Christmas trees are real, and many locals have a tradition of picking theirs up at the beginning of the Christmas Market's run. You can still do that this year, as trees will be available for curbside pickup by car on December 4th and 5th 2020. At the time of writing pick up times have not been finalised, but they will be posted here when they are.

Although it is a little sad that there will be no physical Kitchener Christkindl Market this year we can hopefully look forward to a return to normality next year, and we encourage you to enjoy the virtual market, as it still looks like fun.
